Day 166 – June 15

Today’s Readings:

1 Chronicles 9-10
Acts 2:1-21
Job 10

“…there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance..” – Acts 2:3-4

Pentecost. The day promised by the Lord Jesus. The Comforter, the Paraclete had come at last. It is the day of wonder in the Church, a day where men hiding in fear found their courage to speak. It was a day that not only transformed the Apostles, it transformed the landscape of Jerusalem. The wonder and awe experienced by the Christians that day could not be contained; they had to go out and tell others what they now understood. Jesus is the Messiah! God has walked among us! Pentecost became the moment that frightened men found their courage to proclaim the Good News, at all costs. Let us ask the Lord Jesus to send down His Spirit anew into our hearts, renew our fervor to speak of the things of God.

May God bless you.

Day 155 – June 4

Today’s Readings:

2 Kings 11-12
John 14
Psalm 149

“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. – John 14:25-26

Jesus is preparing the disciples for his going to the Father, and the coming of the Holy Spirit who will instruct them in the truth. This promise of the Holy Spirit is fulfilled on the Feast of Pentecost which is celebrated today, 50 days after Easter.

Jesus promised an advocate to come and instruct them in truth. The Holy Spirit, also called the Comforter, Intercessor, Guide, Revealer, Teacher, Witness, is to be with us, so we are not alone in our battles, but can rely on His gifts to come to our aide.

Today, let us turn to the third Person of the Blessed Trinity, the Holy Spirit, asking for the sevenfold gifts of grace. Wisdom. Understanding, Fortitude, Fear of the Lord, Patience, Counsel, and Knowledge. The embracing of these gifts in our lives will be manifest by the fruits of the spirit, as a testimony of our growing in faith.

Come Holy Spirit, teach us all things, that we may truly become one, in faith and love of God.

May God bless you.
