“We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” John 9:4-5
The days for doing good deeds are numbered. Jesus pressed on each day towards his ultimate goal, the Cross. It was a fevered work, almost a restless pressing forward until his last words, “It is finished.” Reflecting on Jesus’ mission on earth, we see the path of discipleship as one that requires intentional movement through the day. Each day, with its finite time of light, it happens that toward the end of the day it is then we may hear ourselves say, ‘I’ve only so much time until night, I better get moving!’.
Night is coming when no one can work.
What work has God ordained for you? Are you intentionally moving action by action, word by word, to completing the will of God in your life today? Let us offer those moments when we would rather rest on the mountain with Jesus – “How good it is we are here!” moments – and offer our service, the sweat of our brow, and work as an act of love for Jesus.
May God bless you.
