“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, for, I tell you, I shall not eat it [again] until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” – Luke 22:15-16
Today, we read the beginning of the Passion narrative in Luke, that begins with the Passover. The Christian churches celebrate this Biblical event on Holy Thursday in a particular way, recalling Jesus’ institution of the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist; His body taken, blessed, broken and given to us, to be our spiritual nourishment on the journey of life. Jesus tells us, “This is my blood…this is my body.” Take and eat. Do this in memory of me.
At every holy Sacrifice of the Mass, we are transported to that first Supper with His disciples. The sacrifice we celebrate on every Altar around the world is the one and the same sacrifice of Jesus’ body, blood, soul and divinity, offered at the Table of the Cross.
Jesus still thirsts for us to come and be nourished at His Table. Let us ask for the grace to recognize Him in His Most Precious Body and Blood, and be found worthy to receive Him.
May God bless you.
