Day 117 – April 27

Today’s Readings:

1 Samuel 11-12
Luke 19:28-48
Psalm 117

But you must fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart, for you have seen the great things the Lord has done among you. 1 Samuel 12:24

Yes, the Lord is faithful forever. We read in First Samuel today, Samuel gives a recap of Israel’s journey with the Lord from the time before the captivity in Egypt. Despite the many signs and wonders God has shown His people, they have rejected Him again and again, and now, they have refused to be ruled by God, choosing an earthly king instead.

Here is where we can marvel at how different God is from His creation. Despite the fact Israel has abandoned God for other things, over and over again spurning their special relationship with the Creator of all, God calls them back to Himself.

For the sake of his own great name the Lord will not abandon his people…” 1 Samuel 12:22

Who wouldn’t want a friend of such fidelity? Let us turn to the Lord today with a renewed desire to enter into the eternal friendship we are offered. Through the Holy Scriptures and the Sacraments, let us “…fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart, for you have seen the great things the Lord has done among you.” 1 Samuel 12:25

May God bless you.
